When it’s your turn …

Imagine you’re sitting in on your own funeral family visit. The minister or celebrant is taking notes. But it’s not going well. Each family member has a different recollection about events in your life. There are gaps of years or even decades, where nobody knows what path your life had been taking.
It’s no-one’s fault. Your loved ones are distressed, confused and upset. When it comes to the funeral ceremony itself, the eulogy seems sadly incomplete. Elements of your life become lost forever and many attending may never learn the full story of ‘you’.

No-one knows you better than you
The answer lies with you.

After all - who knows your life story better than anyone?
Who’s best placed to choose the stories to tell and those to leave out.

The answer, of course, is you.

Why leave your funeral arrangements until after you’ve gone, giving your next of kin only a matter of days to organise the ceremony?

At Living Funeral Services, we know funerals and we know families. We understand the grieving process and it’s our mission to support families through this most difficult of times.

We’ll use our experience and network of contacts to help you to –

  • choose the Funeral Director
  • take your funeral instructions
  • write your Eulogy
  • plan and write up your complete funeral service
  • organise and host a ‘Celebration of Life’ while you are alive

Below are some of the decision that needs to be made to plan a funeral

  • What music do you want?
  • Are there any poems to be said?
  • Would you like a make tribute?
  • What prayers?
  • What readings?
  • What music during the committal?
  • What flowers - what colour?
  • Where will the reception be held?
  • Who will donations be going to?
  • Which Celebrant or Minister to use?
  • Which funeral director would you like?

Living Funeral Services – how we work

The timing is immaterial. It could be that you’re in middle-age – in good health. Or maybe you know that your life is drawing to a close. Either way, Living Funeral Services is a wonderful and sensitive way to ease the burden on your loved ones. They will need a period of grief in order to heal. By organising your funeral in advance, you’ll be giving your family the space they need to commence that journey of grief.

Having received your funeral instructions we are now in a situation to have your Eulogy written up. We can then start to plan every aspect of your ceremony.

  • Plan a personal and bespoke funeral
  • Music for the start, the reflection time and the close
  • Family tributes
  • Hymns
  • Poems
  • Readings
  • Your choice of Funeral Director
  • The design of your Order of Service
  • Instructions for loved ones.

Once we have received your Eulogy, we then write up your complete funeral service, making sure that every wish is included. Finally, we make sure you’re completely happy with the final arrangements.

We then send a copy to you and your Next of Kin with instruction on what to do when the time comes.

Let's have a party
A Living Funeral or Celebration of Life

How often do you hear loved ones say,
"If only I’d said I loved them before they died"
or
"The greatest regret I will have for the rest of my life is not having said ……"

How sad it is that what has been left unsaid is so often a source of such regret.

Well, it needn’t be.

The answer lies in the concept of a Living Funeral or Celebration of Life. This is where a life is honoured and celebrated while the individual is still alive. Why not enjoy the celebration of your life together with those family and friends who all mean so much to you?

The star of the day.

The event could be held in a variety of circumstances. It could be that you’re nearing the end of your life, suffering from a terminal illness. Or perhaps, you’re in the early stages of a degenerative mental condition, such as dementia.

Either way, wouldn’t it be good to celebrate your life with loved ones while you’re still able to enjoy the occasion? Whatever the circumstances, whatever the scale of the event, one thing’s for sure - you will be the star of the day.

A truly individual celebration
This can be a religious or non-religious event. It can be organised by you or by your family. And of course, you can invite as many family and friends as you wish.

A Celebration of Life is completely personal and be casual or a formal affair. It’s a party with everyone you love.

It’s up to you and your family to decide on the venue and the order of events. You can include features which are often part of a traditional funeral, such as a eulogy. You may wish to give a speech, or others might wish to. Some might want to read their favourite poems, serve their favourite food, play their favourite music.
Of course, you can include a memory table of photographs, and you may also wish to have a letterbox to post final wishes. Don’t forget that this is your last chance for a party!

How does a Celebration of Life work?
We’ll guide you through the planning process with a series of questionnaires.

On the day we’ll host the event for you, like a ‘This is Your Life’, with -
· Stories and tales being told by loved ones and friends of times together.
· Music that has meant something to you through your life being played.
· Poems and readings.
· Personal Tributes.
· Photos or PowerPoint presentations.
· Personal ‘goodbyes’.
· Make a speech.
· Hand out messages that you have found hard to say in life, asking loved ones not to be open till after you’ve gone.
· Enjoy your favourite meal.

Enjoy this final time spent together with those you love.

Fee for planning and hosting £235.00 - £295.00 (depends on area).

Celebrant to conduct your funeral

So, you’ve done the hard work.

Your eulogy is written up. The funeral arrangements are all in place. There’s just one thing missing. Someone to conduct your ceremony.

You need a Celebrant … and not just any celebrant.

You need someone who’s highly trained, experienced and empathetic – someone who will present your story and conduct a celebration of your life in a way that’s appropriate and meaningful – truly reflecting its richness and its values.

The celebrant you need is someone with a clear, pleasing speaking voice, who will bring together in an appropriate way everything about your life that is meaningful to your family and friends.

This is where we come in. We’ll use our vast network of contacts throughout the UK to locate just the right person to conduct the celebration of your life.

Fees for an experienced funeral celebrant
would be between £210.00 - £285.00  (depends on area).
